GastroFest Dilijan takes place in the forested setting of Dilijan City Park across three days each May, bringing together more than 20 restaurants, regional food producers, and chefs for a programme of tastings, workshops, and live music. It is one of the few food-focused festivals in Armenia that draws participation from producers across multiple regions, giving visitors a relatively broad cross-section of Armenian cuisine in a single location.
Dilijan has developed a growing reputation as a culinary destination — the Tavush region’s forests, streams, and cooler climate produce distinctive wild herbs, mushrooms, honey, and trout that feature prominently in local cooking. The festival uses that local produce as its backbone while also hosting Armenian chefs experimenting with more contemporary approaches.
What’s on the programme
Each day runs from mid-morning through the early evening. Tasting stands from participating restaurants allow visitors to try dishes and drinks at individual prices or with a festival tasting card. Cooking workshops — which may require advance registration depending on capacity — run in the afternoons and typically cover Armenian bread-making, cheese preparation, or herb-based preservation techniques. Live folk and acoustic music plays in the park throughout the day, creating a relaxed backdrop rather than a concert-hall atmosphere.
Practical information
Entry to the festival grounds is typically free, with tastings and workshops priced individually. Dilijan is around 100 km north of Yerevan, approximately one and a half hours by car via the M4 highway. Marshrutkas from Yerevan’s Kilikia bus station reach Dilijan regularly. Early May in Dilijan is mild and occasionally wet — the forest setting is beautiful at this time of year but the park ground can be soft after rain, so footwear with grip is advisable. If you are combining the festival with an overnight stay, Dilijan’s guesthouses and small hotels are well priced by Armenian standards. See our Dilijan destination guide for options.
