Sevan International Music Festival

The Sevan International Music Festival is a free two-day outdoor event held on the first public beach of Lake Sevan each August. It focuses on rock and folk music, mixing Armenian acts — both established artists and emerging bands — with a selection of international performers, primarily from the wider region. The lakeside beach setting, with the water and surrounding highlands as a backdrop, makes it one of the more distinctive festival environments in the South Caucasus.

The festival emerged as part of a broader effort to develop cultural programming around Lake Sevan during the summer tourist season. The lake draws large numbers of Armenian domestic visitors in July and August, and the festival has become a fixture in that summer calendar. Attendance is typically in the thousands over the two days, with crowds growing toward evening as the temperature drops to something more comfortable.

Programme and atmosphere

The main stage runs from mid-afternoon into the late evening. Folk acts often open the day before rock and electric performances take over as the sun goes down. The atmosphere is informal and social rather than tightly managed — people bring food and drink, spread out on the beach grass, and move freely between the stage area and the shoreline. Alcohol is available from vendors. No ticket purchase is required; simply arrive.

Getting there

Lake Sevan is around 65 km east of Yerevan, approximately one hour by car. The Sevan train station is served by daily trains from Yerevan’s Sasuntsi Davit station, and marshrutkas run from Kilikia bus terminal. August is peak season — accommodation in Sevan town books out during festival weekend, so either reserve well in advance or consider day-tripping from Yerevan.
