Armenia Records 39% Tourism Surge in April 2026
Armenia welcomed 172,705 international tourists in April 2026 — a rise of 39.6% on the 123,705 recorded in April 2025 — according to figures announced by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at a government meeting on 7 May. The January–April running total stands 34% above the same period in 2025, with first-quarter arrivals alone exceeding 453,000.
The headline number tells only part of the story. Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan highlighted a meaningful shift in visitor composition: Russia’s share of arrivals has dropped from more than 50% in 2023 to around 36% in the first four months of 2026. Visitors from India, Italy, France, the United States, China, Germany, Iran, and Georgia have all grown in number. Airlines have responded accordingly — this spring FlyOne Armenia launched direct services to Vienna and Milan Bergamo, airBaltic introduced a Riga–Yerevan route, and Wizz Air is preparing to launch the UK’s first non-stop service from London Luton to Yerevan in June.
Two policy levers appear to be working together. The temporary visa-free window — valid until 1 July 2026 for holders of US, EU/Schengen, or GCC residence permits from any of 113 eligible nationalities — has removed a significant barrier for a wide pool of potential visitors. Alongside that, a sustained international marketing push seems to be converting interest into actual bookings.
The timing matters for anyone still planning a summer visit. May, June, and July are on track to be Armenia’s three busiest months on record this year. Popular accommodation in Yerevan and Dilijan fills quickly around public holidays — Republic Day on 28 May is the next major one — so booking sooner rather than later is advisable.
