Flights to Armenia: Airlines, Routes and How to Find Cheap Fares

Zvartnots International Airport, the main gateway to Armenia

Almost all international visitors to Armenia arrive at Zvartnots International Airport (EVN), located around 12 kilometres west of central Yerevan. It is the country’s only significant international gateway; a second airport at Gyumri handles very limited scheduled traffic.

Key Airlines Flying to Yerevan

The mix of carriers serving Yerevan has shifted notably over the past few years. Budget airlines have entered the market, and connectivity from Western and Central Europe has improved.

Wizz Air is currently the most significant budget option for travellers from Europe. It operates routes from London Luton, Budapest, Vienna, Warsaw, Katowice, and several other Central and Eastern European cities. Fares from London Luton frequently undercut other options by a significant margin, though luggage costs add up quickly — factor these in when comparing.

Ryanair has operated limited seasonal routes to Yerevan, though availability and frequency vary by year. Check current schedules directly — Ryanair’s network in this region is not as consistent as Wizz Air’s.

Flydubai connects Yerevan to Dubai International. This is a useful option for travellers from South and Southeast Asia, or for those who find connecting via the Gulf cheaper than routing through European hubs.

Turkish Airlines is a strong option via Istanbul. The Istanbul connection adds a stopover but Turkish Airlines has a broad European and global network, and its transit times at Istanbul Atatürk are generally manageable. Onboard service is notably better than budget carriers.

Air Arabia connects via Sharjah, which is an alternative Gulf routing. Useful for some origins but less convenient for most European travellers.

Aegean Airlines operates via Athens. A solid option for travellers already routing through Greece, and Athens is a convenient hub for Mediterranean Europe.

Armenia’s own carriers — including FlyOne Armenia — have operated routes to European cities and occasionally to Middle Eastern destinations. Route networks change; verify current schedules before planning.

Direct Routes from Europe

Direct (non-stop) flights from Europe to Yerevan are available from several cities, including:

  • London Luton — Wizz Air (direct)
  • Paris CDG — periodic direct services; check current availability
  • Frankfurt — periodic connections
  • Budapest, Vienna, Warsaw — Wizz Air

Travellers from the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia, and southern Europe will often find that routing via Istanbul, Dubai, or Athens produces cheaper fares than direct options, despite the added travel time.

Typical Fares

Return fares from London to Yerevan vary significantly by season and booking window. Wizz Air promotions can bring fares as low as £60–80 all-in during off-peak periods, but £120–200 is a more typical range when including a checked bag. Summer (June–September) is both the most popular travel season and the most expensive for flights. Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) offer a good balance of weather and price.

Fares from Central Europe are generally cheaper than from Western Europe due to shorter distances and stronger Wizz Air presence. Budapest to Yerevan, for example, frequently comes in under €100 return.

Best Booking Window

For budget carriers like Wizz Air, booking 6–10 weeks ahead typically offers the best balance of availability and price. Very early booking (6+ months out) does not always guarantee cheaper fares on this route; prices fluctuate based on demand. Last-minute fares are usually poor unless you catch a seat sale.

Flexible travel dates make a meaningful difference. Mid-week departures (Tuesday, Wednesday) are often cheaper than weekend flights. The price calendar view on Aviasales makes it easy to scan a full month of fares at once.

How Aviasales Helps

Aviasales aggregates fares from airlines and online travel agents in one place, including carriers that are not always well-represented on Western booking sites. It is particularly strong for routes involving Eastern European and post-Soviet carriers. The price alert feature is worth setting up: enter your route and target price, and Aviasales notifies you when fares drop to that level.

Connecting via Istanbul or Dubai

Connecting via Istanbul adds roughly 2–4 hours to total journey time from most European origins, depending on layover length. Via Dubai from Europe adds 5–8 hours. Both routings are sometimes significantly cheaper than direct options — particularly from cities without a Wizz Air direct service to Yerevan.

If you have a long layover, Istanbul is a city worth spending time in before or after Armenia; the two countries share some historical and cultural threads that make a combined trip interesting.

Arriving at Zvartnots

Zvartnots is a compact airport by international standards. Immigration queues can be slow on peak days, but the process is generally straightforward for most passport holders. Yerevan city centre is around 20–30 minutes by taxi; the GG app (Armenia’s main ride-hailing platform) operates from the airport and gives fixed prices. Airport taxis at the kerbside charge more — agree the fare before getting in. Before you fly, it is also worth arranging travel insurance for Armenia — EHIC cards provide no cover here, and medical evacuation costs are significant without a policy.
