Armenia e-Visa Guide 2026: How to Apply, Fees, and Requirements

Since the expiry of Armenia’s temporary visa-exemption scheme for residence-permit holders on 1 July 2026, the Armenian e-visa has become the main route into the country for travellers whose passports are not on the permanent visa-free list. The good news: the process is entirely online, requires no embassy visit, and takes as little as three business days. This guide walks through everything you need to know.

Who Needs an Armenia e-Visa?

Not everyone needs an e-visa. Armenia maintains a permanent visa-free arrangement with a substantial number of countries, including:

• All EU and Schengen member states
• United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand
• Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Belarus, Moldova
• Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau
• UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain
• Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela
• And several dozen others — confirm at mfa.am before booking.

If your passport is not on the visa-free list, you need an e-visa before arriving in Armenia. This now includes many third-country nationals who previously entered under the January–July 2026 temporary residence-permit exemption; that scheme expired on 1 July 2026, and an e-visa is now required.

Where to Apply

The official portal is evisa.mfa.am — operated by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. There is no cost advantage to using a third-party visa agency; they typically charge a service fee on top of the government fee for submitting the same form. Use the official portal directly.

A “check eligibility” tool on the portal lets you enter your passport country and travel purpose to confirm whether you qualify for an e-visa or another visa category.

Step-by-Step Application Process

Step 1: Check Eligibility

Go to evisa.mfa.am and use the eligibility checker. Select your passport country and travel purpose (tourist, business, transit). The system will tell you immediately whether an e-visa is available to you or whether you need to apply through an Armenian embassy.

Step 2: Enter Your Email

Click “Apply for e-visa” and enter your email address. You’ll receive a confirmation link — click it to activate your application session. This link is time-limited, so continue the application promptly.

Step 3: Complete the Application Form

Fill in all required fields:

• Personal details: full name as it appears on your passport, date of birth, nationality, gender
• Passport information: passport number, issue date, expiry date, issuing country
• Travel details: intended arrival date, length of stay, purpose of visit
• Contact and accommodation: your home address, employer or occupation, and your planned accommodation address and phone number in Armenia

Double-check that all passport details match exactly — discrepancies can cause problems at the border.

Step 4: Upload Documents

You will need to attach:

• Passport bio page scan — clear colour scan, passport valid for the entire duration of your stay with at least one blank page
• Recent passport photo — 3.5 × 4.5 cm, white background, no glasses, taken within the last six months
• Any supporting documents requested for your visa category (tourist visas typically require only the above)

Step 5: Pay the Fee

Payment is made online by card at the end of the application. Fees as of 2026:

Children under 18 and family members of Armenian citizens are generally exempt — the portal will confirm during your application.

Fees are paid in AMD. Your card provider converts at the prevailing exchange rate; check that your card works for international transactions before starting.

Step 6: Receive and Print Your e-Visa

Once approved, you’ll receive the e-visa by email as a PDF. Processing takes 3 business days under normal conditions — plan for up to 10–15 days during peak summer travel or for nationalities where additional checks apply.

Print a copy of your e-visa and carry it alongside your passport. Border officers at Zvartnots Airport and land crossings will ask to see the printed document, not just a phone screen.

Apply at least 10–14 days before your intended arrival to avoid travel disruption. If you are flying to Armenia with a connection and no easy rebooking option, apply 3 weeks ahead.

What the e-Visa Allows

An Armenian tourist e-visa permits:

• Entry at Zvartnots International Airport (Yerevan), open land borders with Georgia and Iran
• Stay duration as granted: 21 days or 120 days from first entry, depending on the option chosen
• Single or multiple entries depending on the visa type purchased
• Tourism, visiting family/friends, or transit — not employment or long-term residency

Overstaying your e-visa is a violation of Armenian immigration law and can result in fines and complications for future visits. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for an extension through the Armenian Police Migration Service before your current visa expires.

Visa on Arrival: Is It Available?

Visa on arrival is technically available at Zvartnots International Airport for some nationalities. However, there are practical disadvantages:

• Queues can be long, particularly on busy summer arrival days
• There is no guarantee of availability for all eligible nationalities
• You cannot apply for visa on arrival at land border crossings
• Processing is slower than presenting a pre-approved e-visa

Practical Tips

Match your details to your passport exactly. Even a small discrepancy — a middle name included on your passport but not your application, a date transposed — can delay processing or cause problems at the border.
