Direct flights between Tabriz and Yerevan resumed on 20 August 2026, with Iranian carrier Pouya Air launching twice-weekly services after a two-year suspension of the route. Flights depart from Tabriz Shahid Madani Airport and arrive at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan.
The Schedule
The route operates twice weekly:
- Monday — Tabriz to Yerevan, and the return leg
- Thursday — Tabriz to Yerevan, and the return leg
This gives travellers from northwestern Iran a direct connection to the Armenian capital without routing through Tehran — a journey that previously required a detour of several hours by air or a long overland drive.
Why the Route Matters
The Tabriz–Yerevan corridor had been suspended since 2024. Its return is significant for two groups of travellers. Iranians based in the country’s second-largest city now have a direct gateway into Armenia, while travellers already in Yerevan gain a new entry point into Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province — a region with a UNESCO-listed historic bazaar complex, the volcanic landscapes around Mount Sahand, and ancient Armenian churches in the Arasbaran area.
Travelling to and From Yerevan
Zvartnots International Airport is 12km west of Yerevan city centre. Taxis cover the journey in around 25 minutes at AMD 3,000–4,500 depending on time of day; a dedicated airport bus also serves the terminal with stops in the centre. The airport handles all international departures from Armenia and has expanded facilities over the past two years to handle increased traffic from carriers including Wizz Air, FlyOne Armenia, and now Pouya Air.
Visa Requirements
Iranian nationals visiting Armenia and Armenian citizens travelling to Iran should confirm current visa conditions with the relevant embassies before booking. Armenia currently operates a straightforward e-visa process for most nationalities, while entry requirements for Iran vary considerably by passport. Allow sufficient processing time if a visa application is required.
Context: Armenia’s Connectivity in 2026
This route adds to a steady expansion of air links into Yerevan this year. China Southern doubled its Urumqi frequency in August, Wizz Air launched UK direct flights in June, and FlyOne Armenia has grown its European network across the season. The Tabriz resumption is the only direct Iran connection currently operating, making it a notable addition for travellers planning itineraries that cross between the two countries.
