Wizz Air Launches Direct London–Yerevan Flights from 12 June
Wizz Air will begin its first-ever direct flights between London and Yerevan on 12 June 2026, giving UK travellers a low-cost route into the Armenian capital without the need to connect through a European hub.
The service was unveiled through Wizz Air’s “Let’s Get Lost” mystery flight event on 9 May, where more than 100 passengers — journalists, social media creators and adventure travellers — boarded a flight from London with no prior knowledge of their destination. When the crew announced “Welcome to Yerevan in Armenia,” the moment generated considerable attention online. Footage of the airport welcome — traditional dances, local hospitality and a full city programme — spread widely on social media in the days following the flight, effectively serving as a live marketing campaign for both the route and Armenia as a destination.
What the route means for UK travellers
Until now, UK visitors have needed to route through Vienna, Istanbul, Moscow (when operational), or other hubs to reach Zvartnots International Airport. The Wizz Air service cuts that friction significantly, and low-cost fares put Yerevan within the same price bracket as more established eastern Mediterranean destinations from the UK.
The timing suits travellers considering a June trip. Armenia’s Yerevan Wine Days festival takes place 5–7 June — arriving before the Wizz Air launch date — and is one of the country’s most accessible visitor events: 100 wineries, 1,000 wine varieties, live music, and free entry across three evenings in the city centre streets. The 2025 edition attracted 180,000 visitors, 40% of whom were international tourists, so accommodation around the festival weekend books quickly.
Entry conditions
Armenia is currently operating a temporary visa-free scheme that allows nationals holding a valid US, EU, Schengen or Gulf Cooperation Council residence permit to enter without a visa for up to 180 days. This programme runs until 1 July 2026, so for travellers planning a June visit ahead of the Wizz Air launch, the entry process is straightforward provided you carry the relevant physical permit. Our Armenia safety and entry guide covers current requirements in full.
Planning a trip
Yerevan is a walkable, café-dense city well suited to independent travel, with Garni temple, Geghard monastery and Lake Sevan all reachable on day trips from the centre. A structured overview of what to see and how to pace a visit appears in our two-week Armenia itinerary. The full picture of airlines, routes, and seasonal pricing is covered in our flights to Armenia guide, which will be updated to reflect the Wizz Air schedule once complete booking details are confirmed.
